One minute I was into climbing monkey bars and trees, now ZOOM to 15 years later where I perform, tell dry jokes, compose and do random things like make music out of a truck.
Some say Im a bit of a spazz but I just like to suprise people.
Long story short.
My mum pushed me into playing piano at eight years old. I eventually got bored with classical music and wanted to quit but mum was like “toughen up, I didn't pay all this money for nothing".
Long story short.
My mum pushed me into playing piano at eight years old. I eventually got bored with classical music and wanted to quit but mum was like “ I didn't pay all this money for you to quit, toughen up “. So I did and found more of a love for the piano.
In my last two years of college, I was in two bands and entered Smoke Free Rockquest which I found was the biggest eye opener for my musical career and finding out who I was as a person. The song "Fire" was the coolest yet dumbest song our band made as it was about McDonalds burning down in my hometown (true story). Ever since Smoke free Rockquest, I got into telling dry jokes which boosted my confidence and really got me into playing more music.
After college, my music teacher recommended to audition for the degree in Commercial Music at Massey University and I did and hallelujah, I got in!
Now im in my last year of this degree and have a whole new view on music. I’m writing new material and have learnt a whole bunch of crazy ways to compose. I have learnt to always have a delayed shaker when drumming to a click track and have met lots of cool musos. I’ve played for other musos and have experimented with different areas in the creative industry. I'm now in the making of going back in time and recording those first songs I made when I was younger as they were important to my mum and my brother. They’ve always been firm believers that I was naturally gifted and they enjoyed my songs. So I trust that and want to pursue it to make them proud as well wanting to capture the little Amelia that I was. I strongly believe and think that there is no better feeling than looking back with the biggest grin on your face at what you’ve created and thinking “wow sh*t, I did that.”
At 11 years old, I got into singer-songwriting and made my first song called "Im Awake". Overtime I wrote more content but never finished the songs properly because I thought it was just a passing phase. I always was able to naturally write but never took it seriously. I wasn’t comfortable with singing so I learnt to rap, inspired by Eminem.
In year 11, I learned drums at college and was pushed into taking music as my drum tutor said I had 'potential'. So I did.
